| Former Saugeen First Nation Chief Passes Away 08/07/2023 A former Saugeen First Nation Chief and Grand Council Chief for the Anishinabek Nation has passed away. According to a social media post from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, Vernon Roote passed away Aug. 4. He was Chief of the Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation in 1994, and Wiikwemkoong says he was very active in advocacy for the Anishinabek Nation in the 1990s and 2000s....
